How to use FTP for Outlook?

FTP is known as File Transfer Protocol is used for only transferring files back and forth between two computers over the internet. FTP is the most frequent and efficient way to transfer steadily small and large files from one place to another over the internet. The only one thing which confuses the situation is that you require a FTP client so that the transfer may take place. If you have never used FTP, then it might create problem to just jump into it especially when you are unknown with how it works. This means to transfer the files, you have to download software onto your computer. You can also transfer through web browsers such as Chrome or Firefox but it is not compulsory. For this, FTP clients are more powerful programs which offer a much faster transfer of the files and provide error inspection during the transfer process. There are various FTP clients available on the market among which some are free and some you have to buy.

Using FTP Client:

When you open the software, you will observe 2 pane designs. In left pane, you will find the files on your computer and on the right pane; you will find the files on FTP server. It creates a drag and drop functions where you can drag the files from your computer and drop them into the FTP server or vice-versa. This FTP for Outlook servers work a lot such as web browsers in the sense that they are addressed with a url which replaces HTTP with FTP. The speed at which your files will transfer is regulated by the speed of your internet. E-mail services such as Outlook, Hotmail and Gmail all have limitations to the amount of information which you can send.

You should not use FTP for transferring anything over 8GB because of two reasons. They are:

  1. You are going to pay by the hour for transfer. If your internet connections do not work in fast way, then you have to pay over time fees for your deliverable.
  2. Over 8GB, it is more cost effective to have hard drive with your data shipped to you.
