How to monitor your child’s computer usage?


In today’s modern world, where people are addicted to the computers, electronic gadgets, social networking medias it becomes essential for parents to know where their child is actually spending time. For a growing child, it is almost impossible to distinguish between the good and bad effects of using any media or site. Whatever fascinates them, they go with that and uses them.

Sometime, it may lead to dangerous issues causing child as well as their parents in a very weird and unwanted situation. Obviously no one would like to face such a troublesome situation and as you know prevention is always better than cure so, monitoring your child’s computer usage could let you know where they are spending more of their quality time and guide your children accordingly. Below shows a few methods that will help you monitoring your child’s activities performed by the system. 

How to monitor?

  • Inform your child about Computer safety: Before monitoring your child’s activity it is better if you inform your child about the online threats and computer safety. One should talk to the child in a friendly manner so that they can understand the significance of computer and online safety against threats. It can even eliminate the need of monitoring your child’s system if they are capable in distinguishing the good and bad things.
  • Checking History: You can check for computer history of your child’s system if they have not deleted it or may go for cache to see the sites that they regularly access.
  • Using your wireless router:  there are a few models of wireless router capable of keeping a log of sites that are visited through your home connection. In order to do this, you need to access your router y typing its IP address in your browser. You can access the IP address by opening a command window and typing ipconfig/all. The number listed under “Default Gateway” is the IP address. If your router prompts to enter password, and you have never set one then refer to your manufacturer’s website or the router packaging. After you have access on your router press “Logs” to view the activities on your network. You can even have a feature whereby you can set up a list of blocked sites from your child’s computer and also you can ask the router to mail you in order to inform whenever your child want to access those blocked sites.
  • Using Computer Monitoring Software: Using Computer monitoring software you will be able to monitor your child’s computer usage as well as online activities. You can even block unwanted sites and it also mails you if something suspicious is encountered. The software is very reliable and easy to use and can be used even by a novice user.
